Windows: login keyboard layout

Problem: 

How to configure the keyboard layout you will face by default if you want to login to a Windows system?

Solution:

First add your desired keyboard layout to available keyboard layouts:

1. In Start\Control panel open Region and Language.
2. In Region and Language, on tab Keyboards and Languages, click Change keyboards...
3. In Text Services and Input Languages, on tab General, in section Installed services, click Add...
4. In Add Input Language, select the desired language, then click OK.
5. In Text Services and Input Languages, click OK.
6. In Region and Language, click OK.

Steps 1-6 describe the procedure in Windows 7. In other Windows operating systems do it in similar way.


Second edit registry to change the default keyboard layout on login screen:

1. Run regedit to open Registry Editor.
2. Go to HKEY_USERS\ .DEFAULT\ Keyboard Layout\ Preload
3. Modify value 1 with data for your desired keyboard layout.
    Example:
       English:     409
       German:    407

Windows Server 2008: display and extend Windows activation grace period

Problem:

If you install a Windows Server 2008 without product activation, your machine will be set in a 60 day grace period. What is to do if you want to check how many days are left in current grace period, and how can you extend the grace period?

Solution:

To determine the grace period left days, open a command prompt and run  
slmgr.vbs -dli

To extend the grace period for next 60 days,  open a command prompt and run 
slmgr.vbs -rearm

You can extend the grace period 3 times by 60 days again, for maximum 240 days.



Both commands will deliver a popup window after a few seconds stating the desired information.

Windows Server 2008 R2: virtuelle Maschine unter Hyper-V startet nicht

Problem: Beim Versuch, eine vhd aus dem MOC-Programm unter Hyper-V zu starten, erscheint folgende Fehlermeldung:

The virtual machine could not be started because the hypervisor is not running.

Lösung: Virtualisierung im BIOS aktivieren und Anpassung der Bootroutine, um den Hypervisor automatisch bei Systemstart zu starten

1. Im BIOS enable "Hardwarevirtualisierung" und enable "Execute Disable Bit (XD)".
2. Neustart mit Power Off
3. Booten
4. An Eingabeaufforderung eingeben: bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype auto
5. System neu booten: shutdown -r -t 0

Danach starten die virtuellen Maschinen korrekt.

Windows Server 2008 telefonisch aktivieren

Problem: Eine neue Windows Server 2008 Installation soll über das Telefon produktaktiviert werden, aber die Option zur telefonischen Aktivierung ist im Menü der Produktaktivierierung nicht vorhanden.

Lösung: An der Eingabeaufforderung slui 4 eingeben. Nun erscheint die bekannte  Oberfläche für den Telefondialog.

Windows Server 2008: Produktaktivierung mit MAK

Situation: Bei der Produktaktivierung einer Windows Server 2008 Enterprise -Installation trat folgender Fehler auf:

Activation Error: Code 0x8007232b
DNS Name does not exist

Dieser Fehler tritt auf, wenn Sie versuchen, eine von Volume Licence Medien erstellte Windows Server 2008 Installation zu aktivieren und kein KMS (Key Management Server) verfügbar ist.

Lösung:
Methode 1: Installieren Sie einen Key Management Server (siehe http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=9893F83E-C8A5-4475-B025-66C6B38B46E3&displaylang=en)

ODER

Methode 2: Verwenden Sie einen MAK (Multiple Activation Key)
- Öffnen Sie eine Eingabeaufforderung als Administrator
- geben Sie ein: slmgr -ipk xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
